@ama_zoya goes to elegushi

Elegushi is quite a popular beach and having been there recently, Amaka Ezeugwa who is a Nigerian entrepreneur graciously agreed to tell us about her visit.

Why Elegushi Beach?

While I was thinking of what to do this Saturday, I got a call from a very good friend, inviting me to go to a beach birthday party with her. Of course I agreed to. The original venue was Lekki Leisure Lake which I was really looking forward to because of the boat rides and other activities. However, plans changed because the celebrant couldn’t bring in food from outside so we opted for Elegushi Beach as a last minute resort. I haven’t been to the beach since I moved back to Nigeria in 2014, so I was really looking forward to it and getting out of the house.

Was payment necessary to gain access?

I got the beach and had to pay N1000 (3GBP/4EUR/$5) for gate fee after which I had to move up to the next entry point and pay another N200 ($1/0.89EUR/66p) for parking. But why?! And then I still got hassled by the car park attendants to “remember them” before I leave. Sigh!

What did you think of Elegushi?

On a scale of 1 to 10, Elegushi gets a 4 from me. Aside from the group I was with, I really wasn’t impressed with the beach. I love water and water sports. And when I go to the beach, I want to engage in as many water sports as possible.

Anyways, I had a good time at the beach; I got to catch up with one of my favorite people, talk about life, our plans and goals for the year, and of course about boys…

What interesting activities did you get up to while there?

The celebrant got one of the beach shacks (houses). We first went to the beach front to take pictures and mingle for a while. After alot of pictures and introductions, it was time to chow, drink and catch up with my girl.

Later on we went back to the beach front to play catch with each other and play in the water. I also got on one of the horses. It’s been on my bucket list to go horseback riding but after my ride at the beach, I think I would just scrap that off. It was all sorts of scary and not thrilling at all. I kept having the feeling that the horse would throw me off, or take me into the water. Completely scary I tell you.

Any words of advice to the management?

It would be nice if the management could completely revamp it and include other activities like jet skiing, parasailing, banana boat rides, water trampoline, etc. I understand that the tides maybe an issue, but that can be controlled. There should be parts of the beach where the tide isn’t too high and heavy.

With the volume of people that visit the beach and the amount of money they receive in return, it would be nice to see a few good changes around there.

Anything else to add?

I had a good time at the beach; I got to catch up with one of my favorite people, talk about life, our plans and goals for the year, and of course about boys…
