Some time last year, I met up with a couple of people at this restaurant, but unfortunately I didn’t get anything to eat. I can’t remember why, but I knew when the opportunity came up again, I would definitely come back.
Fast forward to this year, a colleague and I picked here to have have a late lunch.
Golden Eagle Spur is a South African steak & burger restaurant that recently opened two branches in Ikeja, Lagos. They like to advertise themselves as a family restaurant as they have a specific menu for kids, and toys right in front for them to play with/in depending on what kind of toy it is.
We went to the one on Isaac John street and it shares a compound with the landmark house.

Their decor is based around the Native Americans and country music is the order of the day. My friend surprisingly knew all the songs that came on. I’m pretty sure the only country singer I know is Taylor Swift. Oh right there’s Dolly Parton too.
After we settled down, we were brought our menus by our waitress. Funny thing she was the same person who served my table last year.
We couldn’t decide what drinks to get so we allowed her choose.
I’m a steak fan courtesy of my dad, so I got the big chef combo, while my colleague got fish & chips with tartar sauce. He wasn’t a big fan of it and ended up leeching off my plate. (Have I mentioned I don’t like sharing my food? LOL).
Before the food comes, they bring you a bowl of warm water and lime to clean your hands with. Basically their own version of a hot towel.
I enjoyed my meal even though I had to share *side eye*. And I’m happy I now know a decent steak spot that is just around the corner. No more having to wait to go on vacation for a decent rump.
After we ate, we just sat, discussed work and sang along to some country music. Clearly someone was trying to get me to be a fan by explaining what each song meant, but that wasn’t happening. Too cool for that. That’s another plus about the place though, it’s a very relaxing environment, and you can stay as long as you want, but you have to order something of course.
Our waitress whose name is Love (have I mentioned she’s such a delight?) told us the restaurant gets full in the evenings and on weekends. So you may want to put that into consideration when you’re trying to decide when to go.
Random but useful Information
1. Parking is available.
2. You can pay by card/cash
3. They have a kids menu if you’re not comfortable with your kids eating from the main menu.
4. They are busy in the evenings and on weekends. So depending on the type of dining atmosphere you like, you can choose your dining time wisely.
5. Just in case their POS is having issues and you can’t pay with your card, there are ATMs literally lining up the street, so you can go and withdraw money instead.
6. There are toys in front for the kids to play in.
7. If you can’t do without your hourly dose of the news, they have televisions positioned in different angles showing what’s going on.
8. They have charging ports on each table, so you if your phone battery is down, you’re in luck.
9. They don’t have a delivery service, but you can order for pick up
10. The branch at Ikeja City Mall is called Seven Eagles Spur. (I asked and there isn’t a specific reason they are differently named, or the person simply doesn’t know. However the menu is the same)

Damage done – The total for both meals were in the N6000 – N7000 mark. (20-24 GBP, $31-36, 27-31 Euro).
