I had a lunch meeting with the IT geek who will be responsible for transforming this website.
Jevnik was the restaurant of choice. It is a restaurant that serves strictly Nigerian dishes from abacha to ekpang nkukwo, and has been in business for about 15 years. I figure they are giving yellow chilli some serious competition considering they’re in the same area. My friend said it feels like a posh bukka to her and I kind of agree. They have branches in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Owerri & Aba.
We ate at the Ikeja branch.

On our way in, I noticed they had put up the specials for the day on the board. In the main restaurant, we were showed to our table, handed menus and left to make our selection. The decor is very minimal and basic, nothing too fancy, a couple of stylish lamps and I felt like the seating arrangement was very business like.
After a quick look through the menu, we called our waiter and ordered. I decided to go with coconut rice, assorted meat & plantain, while IT geek wanted plantain porridge (please what is that?).Thankfully they didn’t have it, so beans and plantain was the replacement of choice with goat meat.
Funniest thing happened, while ordering, the waiter asked what ‘protein’ I would like. I was a bit stunned and confused till I realised he meant fish, beef, chicken etc. Can’t remember the last time I thought about my food in regard to their groups.
Food came, we dug in and discussed my lil’ ol’ site. One thing I noticed, the service was really quick and that was pretty impressive to me. Ok I noticed two things, they don’t have any female staff. Well not as waitresses anyway. I didn’t see any or maybe they were all off on that day.
Food was good and very filling. I pondered for a while if I wanted to leave, but at the end of the day, I was happy I walked there so the walk back could help me burn some calories.
It wasn’t particularly full when we got there, but by the time we were getting ready to leave, people had started trooping in.
At the end of it all, it was an enjoyable experience, with a great atmosphere. It’s also a place you can go to if you want a quiet meal. If I go back, I’ll definitely try the proper native dishes. I hear they always get it right.
Prices are decent depending on what you want and how much you want on your plate.
Random but useful info
1. Parking is available
2. Cash and cards are accepted
3. They don’t have a specific menu for kids, and the portions are quite large. Might be something to put into consideration when taking your children there.
4. Lunch time is usually a busy time for them. So when planning, you can put this into consideration.
5. They have private rooms for events and a conference room for business meetings.
6. They offer delivery services/pick up services.
7. They have event halls for rent if you’re having a special occasion.
8. They offer outdoor, industrial & corporate catering services.
9. Each day has a specific special meal, and some of these meals may not be available for order on other days. You can plan to visit on days you know they are having specific specials you’re interested in.
10. They are open Mon-Sun, 9am-10pm.
11. Everything is charged differently i.e rice, plantain & meat isn’t a package. Everything you get to make up your meal has its own price

Staff – 7.5 (my waiter was grumpy for some reason, but everyone else was friendly, friend gave them a solid 9 though)

Damage done – Total for both meals were in the N4000 – N5000 mark. (13-17GBP, $20-$26, 18-22 Euro)
IT Geek’s thoughts – ‘It wasn’t so bad, food came quickly. Staff are well trained and clean environment. I didn’t check their washrooms, but I feel based on the overall ambiance I’d use it comfortably. Only deal breaker – price’ (he had no idea every thing was individually priced)
