After lunch at Johnny Rockets, my friend took me to a store called Iconola and I decided I would do a quick and short spotlight post on them.
It’s a ready to wear store in Nigeria by Nigerians and apparently was the first of its kind when it started in 2003. Its aim is to sell clothes which promote the African fabric and also promotes Nigerian designs by showing it can compete with foreign designers.
It’s a little fuss free shop that is located in Lekki. Unfortunately, at the moment they only cater to women but I’m sure this will change soon. They sell everything from tops to bags and almost everything has ankara infused into it (this doesn’t mean your clothes have to be ankara to be dubbed a Nigerian brand by the way).

They had only one attendant but for a small store that’s ok. She was well mannered and attended to all the customers who came in an orderly and friendly way.
We didn’t buy anything as my friend couldn’t find what she was looking for (they were sold out), but I will be going back when I have the time and I’m in need of a new wardrobe.
Like I always say, while shopping is not the main reason for travel and tourism, it contributes to drawing tourists into different countries and this may just be one of the ones that could serve that purpose. You wouldn’t travel without checking the local shops out, so go there and ‘Shop Nigerian’
So what is the Iconola experience? It’s being able to shop in a quiet and serene environment with an attendant who understands your needs and does her best to serve you in the best way possible. If you tag along with someone like I did, you can sit around on their comfy couch and just take pictures.
