Unravelling Nigeria

Yes we realise everyone and their mama has probably been to Hard Rock Cafe but that’s not going to stop us writing on it.
The restaurant chain finally made its way to Nigeria and has been the venue for quite a few events. It also comes alive in the night as it is now one of the ‘pre-clubbing’ spots in Lagos on Friday nights so the brother and I had to go see what the fuss was all about.
Why: Because it’s hard rock and truth be told we had never been to any but had heard a lot about them.
Where: It’s pretty much where Landmark is but with a different entrance. If you need an address however, it is Plot No 3 & 4, Block XVI, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos. You can also call them to make reservations on +2349081988888. The restaurant opens from 12pm – 12am, bar from 12pm – 1.30am and the rock shop from 12pm – 11pm
Style: They are ‘rock and roll’ themed. Every restaurant that they own has memorabilia of great rock stars hanging on their walls. Items such as guitars, jackets, records and more can be found there. Even our very own King Sunny Ade has one of his guitars hanging somewhere around. Unfortunately I couldn’t snag a picture of it.
The Lagos branch can sit about 200 people as it has two floors and a beach front which is now being used in the evenings. The set up downstairs is set up with couches and a regular dining area. This is also where the stage is for artists to perform and where the dj spins records from on the weekends.
The upstairs area is set up more like a bar with high stools and tables.
The cafe also boasts of a swimming pool area for both adults and kids, a special kids area. We didn’t see these areas as our focus for being there was for the food, so we’re not too sure how those sections work.
The lighting is also dark ish and the workers have a grunge vibe to them.
Menu: It’s an all american menu with burgers, chicken, sandwiches, ribs and the whole works. We got the tupelo chicken tenders, Texan smoke house sandwich, the hickory barbecue bacon cheeseburger, a couple of beers and a cocktail.
Verdict: The staff were friendly and quite attentive to what we needed or wanted to switch up.
I wasn’t quite sold on the chicken tenders; something just wasn’t right about it but everything else was alright. Not too sure if it was worth the visit but at least we had lunch in a great atmosphere. Everything we got cost N15,722 ($50).
I quite liked seeing bits and pieces from the musical greats and being able to see the beach from where I was sitting. That was probably the coolest part of our visit there.
Parking is available on the premises so you don’t have to worry about that. Cash/cards are also acceptable forms of payment.
