Tee Off | IBB International Golf & Country Club

Rumor has it that on Aso Drive, sits a golf course measuring up to 101 hectares with one of the biggest driving ranges in Africa.  With various lakes and ponds which serve as a haven for fishes and crocodiles, the IBB International Golf and Country Club is definitely a great pick for tourists and golf lover alike.

It was created so that those who lived in Abuja didn’t have to travel down to Lagos to play golf and 25 years later, it’s gunning as one of the ‘best golf courses in Africa and one of the most beautiful parkland courses in Sub-Saharan Africa’. It is also host to quite a number of tournaments, both local and international.

After introducing myself to the manager and ensuring him that I wasn’t going to use them for advertisement, I was given a caddy and went on my merry way to view the grounds.

While I’m not a golfer, I was able to appreciate its beauty while strolling around the 18 hole golf course. The membership only golf course boasts of 25 bridges, a restaurant (which is managed by Sheraton Abuja), a bar, a club house, shops, tennis courts and more. Most importantly, while golfing, you are assured a stunning view of Aso Rock if you’re lucky enough to make it to hole 10. Not to worry if you have little ones as there are bouncy castles and games for them.

The lush greenery makes the grounds a beauty to behold and it is no surprise that there are many people who make it a point of duty to be members of the club.

To be a member of this club, it’ll set your pocket back a bit depending on what you want.

Are you a golfer or a lover of nature. If you’re ever in Abuja, this golf course is a scenic one which everyone should try and visit. You don’t have to love golf to enjoy its beauty and I can assure you you’ll be happy you went. You can also kick back and enjoy the view while having a meal at the restaurant.

My caddy, Aminu also made the trip interesting. Unfortunately, I can’t ask you to look out for him as he’s made big plans for his future.
